Stephen Bruel is a Research Director in TowerGroup's Securities & Investments practice. He focuses on the strategic impact of technology in the institutional securities industry, addressing technology, operations, and business issues. In his research and analysis, he examines the dramatic changes affecting the institutional securities business, including electronic trading trends, global regulatory issues, risk management, alternative asset classes, and investment banking.

Stephen has highlighted the operational and risk management challenges associated with the over-the-counter derivatives industry in his analysis of such topics as OTC derivatives front-office trading, collateral management, and market structure. Though the challenges in traditional asset classes such as equities diverge from the OTC markets, the key for institutions is to best leverage technology to overcome the challenges and enhance revenue generation.

Stephen joined TowerGroup from State Street's Wealth Manager Services group, where he focused on supporting and expanding the suite of technology solutions for the firm's global wealth management clients. Stephen's experience at State Street included people, process, and project management as well as client and technology implementation.

Prior to State Street, Stephen held a variety of management positions in the Global Transaction Services division of Citigroup. His responsibilities included managing offshoring projects, designing process improvements, and implementing new customer relationship management technologies.

Stephen has been a speaker at industry events and is quoted frequently by publications such as Wall Street & Technology, Securities Industry News, and American Public Media's Marketplace on NPR.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Trinity College.
